The Egg and Butter Name

In the 1930’s on the heels of prohibition a code name was coined for the men who were running things. They were called the Butter and Egg Men. These men had the bank rolls and savvy to call the shots in the toughest of environments.

Our founders Cedric The Entertainer and Gary “GD” Garner drew from that long and storied history in naming the company and their club. They wanted to keep the tradition but modernize the movement so they re-coined the phrase as Egg and Butter Men.

History

Modern era men's clubs were originally founded in England in the 1800's with early versions going back even further. They started as something that focused on men socializing in the back rooms of their haberdasheries, barber shops, pubs and other businesses.

The goal was simple….. it was a place where men could go after a very long work day and just be men. They were rooted in a sense of camaraderie between men that worked hard to help their families get ahead.

Eventually however, most of these clubs became very exclusionary…. some of them took on political agendas while others turned into philanthropic organizations….but most of them lost their identity as clubs that simply celebrated the hard working man.
